Mr. Perlman's practice focuses on all media and entertainment related industries including interactive entertainment, Internet, film, television, music, book publishing, fashion, industrial design, fine arts, sports and comedy. Mr. Perlman was formerly Of Counsel at Fish and Richardson and was associated with several other premier entertainment law firms in New York City.
Mr. Perlman counsels clients on various transactions from asset sale and purchase, licensing, employment, sponsorship, merchandising, live event and other agreements on behalf of record companies, music publishers, promoters, managers, recording artists, songwriters, music producers, actors, athletes, models, film and television production companies and video game developers, to extremely complex content transactions for companies engaged in the creation and distribution of digital content across multi-media platforms. Most recently, Mr. Perlman structured and negotiated the first exclusive audio-visual licensing agreements for a leading mobile device content aggregator and the major label record companies. He also provides comprehensive consulting and counseling on a range of legal-compliance issues for companies engaged in electronic commerce. This includes issues involving DMCA safe harbors, privacy, spyware, spam, and security, among others.
Mr. Perlman was previously a senior executive at Virgin Records/EMI where he managed the business and legal affairs for more than 50 popular recording artists, such as Lenny Kravitz, Janet Jackson, Smashing Pumpkins, Ben Harper, and the Rolling Stones, among others. In addition, he was responsible for business affairs for Astralwerks and Blue Note Records.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Perlman was a Listings Manager in the Securities Division at the American Stock Exchange where he researched, evaluated, and recommended the listing eligibility of new issuances of public debt and equity for media and entertainment companies.
