Overview
Daniel H. Smith is a Partner at Meister Seelig & Fein, PLLC, bringing to the firm a wealth of legal experience in family and matrimonial law. For approximately two decades, Mr. Smith has been zealously advocating for his clients, whether in the courtroom or at the settlement table, in matters of child custody and support, parenting time, spousal support and equitable distribution. He also finely crafts pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements which advance and protect his clients’ interests. Mr. Smith’s clients include high net worth and high-profile individuals across various industries, as well as those who are married to such individuals. His legal practice encompasses all facets of complex litigation, spanning from its initiation through discovery to trial, and extends to appellate matters. Mr. Smith regularly appears in Supreme and Family Courts across Long Island and New York City, including arguing before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. Mr. Smith’s proficiency also extends to negotiation, where he consistently secures favorable settlements on behalf of his clients.
Mr. Smith has been selected as a New York Super Lawyer in Family Law since 2020, an honor bestowed upon only 5% of legal practitioners in the New York metropolitan area. Prior to this, he was designated as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers for seven consecutive years, from 2013 through 2019. Further underscoring his contributions to the legal community, Mr. Smith was honored with the “Leadership in Law” Award by Long Island Business News in 2014.
Beyond his practice, Mr. Smith actively participates in legal associations, including the Matrimonial Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association and the Jewish Lawyers Association of Nassau County. He also volunteers as a judge for appellate advocacy classes at the Hofstra University School of Law, where he assists law students in developing their oral argument skills.
Mr. Smith holds a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the Hofstra University School of Law. Mr. Smith served as and Articles Editor of the Hofstra Law Review and received the Kenneth S. Horton Award for commitment and dedication. Additionally, Mr. Smith actively engaged in moot court competitions, including the Chief Judge Conrad B. Duberstein National Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition, and interned for the Honorable Melanie L. Cyganowski in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
