MSS Partner Jamie Rosen Quoted in Newsweek on Mental Health Issues Highlighted by Lindsay Clancy Trial

Meister Seelig & Schuster Partner and Chair of the firm’s Mental Health Law Group, Jamie Rosen, was recently quoted in Newsweek discussing the complex mental health issues and challenges facing families that have been brought to the forefront by the Lindsay Clancy trial.
In the article, Rosen addresses the stigma surrounding postpartum mental health conditions and how fear of judgment or other consequences can prevent individuals from fully disclosing serious symptoms and seeking help. She emphasizes the importance of creating an environment in which individuals feel comfortable sharing concerning symptoms so they can receive appropriate support, evaluation and treatment.
Drawing on her extensive experience representing individuals and families navigating mental health crises, Rosen also discusses legal tools that may be available when a loved one is experiencing a psychiatric emergency, including emergency hospitalization, court-ordered evaluations and other forms of intervention, as well as the limitations families can encounter when attempting to secure treatment for someone in crisis.
Rosen further highlights the importance of proactive planning and communication among individuals, families and healthcare providers, particularly when warning signs of a serious mental health condition emerge.
The highly publicized Clancy trial has prompted a broader national conversation about mental illness, access to psychiatric care, the stigma associated with seeking help and the challenges families face when attempting to intervene during a mental health crisis.
