MSS Employment Group Issues Client Alert on New Jersey’s Expanded Employee Separation Reporting Requirements

Meister Seelig & Schuster’s Employment Group has issued a new client alert addressing New Jersey’s expanded employee separation reporting requirements following the launch of the New Jersey Department of Labor’s (NJDOL) Employer Response Portal.

Under the updated requirements, New Jersey employers must now proactively report certain employee separation information within seven days of an employee’s departure, regardless of whether the employee was terminated, laid off, resigned, or retired. Previously, employers could wait until a former employee filed for unemployment benefits before providing relevant information.

The new reporting obligations represent a significant change in how employers must handle employee separations. Failure to comply may result in monetary penalties, adverse unemployment benefit determinations, and, in certain circumstances, the loss of an employer’s ability to challenge a claim.

In the alert, MSS attorneys Andrea B. Neuman, Valerie K. Ferrier, and Charlotte Moriarty Pramer outline the expanded reporting requirements, potential consequences of noncompliance, and practical steps employers should take to update their separation procedures and ensure compliance.

Read the full client alert, “New Jersey Launches Employer Portal for Expanded Separation Reporting Obligations,” to learn more about these changes and what New Jersey employers need to know.
